The Random Draw Podcast – Podcast Review

In this Episode I talked about my experience with The Random Draw Podcast. This is a show that gives you a close hang-out like vibe with three friends as they discuss their thoughts on mostly board games, but sometimes video games or brief other topics as well.

PodApplaud- The Random Draw Podcast

Welcome to PodApplaud, the Monday through Friday podcast that aims to enable your Podcast habit. I’m your host Seb, and today we are going table talk about tabletop show: The Random Draw Podcast.

The Random Draw Podcast is a round table podcast in which 3 friends get together to discuss the games they’ve been playing. Mostly board games, but they have at points mentioned games of the video variety. The Episodes are usually at least an hour long and more often pushing the hour 15 minute mark. Currently there are 10 episodes and 2 bonus episodes. New episodes are released roughly twice a month.

I believe I found this podcast via somebody mentioning them within the podcast subreddit. They were fairly positive with their praise of the show so I figured I would check it out. I’ve currently listened to most of the episodes and it’s funny I feel kind of nostalgic about this show, despite its newness, but I’ll get to that in a moment. The show is not really a review of board games, more of an explanation of how the game works what it’s like to sit down and play the game and what each of the hosts generally thought about the game. In the average episode the hosts will touch on at least 3 games or more, which shows you that these gents play a lot of games. They are well spoken, pretty clever and quite funny with excellent chemistry. The sound is also impeccable, I believe in one of the episodes they mentioned that they get to record in an actual studio because of one of the hosts is employed there.  This type of show is reminiscent for me because these are the shows I listened to when I first started podcasts. The guys are cheery and so buddy buddy with each other that listening makes you feel like you’re amongst friends. When I first started listening to podcasts it was usually a background focus while playing a solo video game and I listened primarily to shows like this. When I unlocked the ability to listen to podcasts at work I replaced these lighter podcasts with more dense shows that demand more of my attention and make the shift go by faster. Listening to The Random Draw Podcast reminds me that I miss shows like this.

Well here on PodApplaud I rate shows on a 1-5 scale, 1 is silence, 2 is a slow clap, 3 is applause, 4 is a round of applause, and 5 of course is a standing ovation! I’m going to give The Random Draw Podcast a ⅗, applause. I like the show, there is a specific audience that this show is perfect for, I used to be that audience and I know this show will kill among that group. The show is also gearing that way, because their on-topic discussion tends to wrap up at about 2/3rd’s of the episodes length with the last 3rd being general relaxed funny conversation. I will stay subscribed and probably play this in the background while I game the 1 night a week I get a chance to unwind and solo game. I’d recommend the show to board game hobbyist and people looking for that hang out vibe.
